General Fishing Rules
- 1. All Apapa Boat Club fishing competitions will be organized under the Apapa Boat Club General Fishing Rules. (These rules.)
- 2. A competition list shall be put on the notice board at least 10 days before the start of each competition, to allow participants to enter their names. Only those people, whose names are on the sign-on list before the posted sign-on closing time, shall be accepted as participants. (This rule does not apply to Floating Trophies.).
- 3. A competition notice shall be clearly marked “Open Competition” or “ABC Club Competition”.
- a. An Open Competition is open to all participants who sign on, regardless of club affiliation or lack of club affiliation.
- b. A Club Competition is for all ABC members and their immediate family (spouse and children). All other participants are considered Guests and may be eligible for a Guest prize.
- 4. All fish must be brought to the ABC weigh-in jetty by the boat making the catch.
- 5. All landed fish for competitions must be weighed-in at the ABC and entered in the Fishing Book.
- 6. Billfish..
- a. Landed Billfish are not recognized in any Apapa Boat Club fishing competition but, if landed, are still eligible for the ABC Line Class Records posted on the notice board.
- b. Tag and release of Billfish shall only be accepted with correct digital evidence. This digital evidence must be witnessed, on the day of the catch, by a member of the Fishing Sub-Committee, who is not involved in the catch. If no member of the Fishing Sub-Committee is available then the digital evidence must be sent by E-mail to the Fishing Competition Secretary on the first working day after the catch.

- c. Tagged and Released Billfish will score in competition as follows:
Marlin tag & release 50 points, which equals 50kg.
Sailfish tag & release 20 points, which equals 20kg.
- 7. Competitors must have been seen to pass the end of the jetty before competition closing time to be included in the weigh in. The only Time Piece accepted for this shall be the Club Clock in the Radio Tower. Inclusion after a late weigh-in, due to rendering assistance to another person or a breakdown is at the Fishing Sub-Committees’ discretion.
- 8. Only non-mutilated fish will be accepted.
- 9. All fish may be subject to being marked whilst being weighed and no similarly marked fish will be accepted
- 10. Available members of the ABC Fishing Section sub-committee will resolve all protests, which must be submitted within half an hour of the results being made public. Should a member of the sub-committee be involved in a protest, that member will stand down during the dispute and not participate in resolving it.
- 11. Competitors must attend the prize giving on the final day of the competition to be eligible for prizes, Fisherman of the Year, Junior Fisherman of the Year and Captain of the Year points. If a competitor cannot attend and informs the sub-committee or sends a message to the Fishing Sub-committee prior to the start of the prize giving, the Sub-committee then reserve the right to negate this rule if the circumstances warrant it.
